ISG is set to begin work on a refurbishment of the BBC World Service building at Bush House in central London after securing a contract from Japanese owner Kato Kagaku.
The £52 million redevelopment will see ISG deliver over 300,000 sq ft of Cat A office accommodation and install a host of new mechanical and electrical services. Officials explained that the work will begin immediately and will cover four buildings on the site and, once completed, it will be renamed the Aldwych Quarter.
ISG will be stripping out the buildings to shell and core before undergoing an extensive modernisation of the internal space including the replacement of 14 of the existing lifts. Roofing will be put into consideration with all four buildings experiencing extensive work culminating in facade cleaning, masonry repairs and window replacements. It will also add an extra lift to improve accessibility at the site.
The BBC World Service left Bush House in July 2012 moving back to Broadcasting House, which had recently completed a major upgrade. The radio channel had been based at the central London location for over 70 years and had programmes in 28 languages to reach all corners of the globe
Bush House was described by the BBC as a "quintessentially British building" and represented a symbol of Anglo-American trade when it first opened. The final news bulletin from the building was broadcast at 12:00 BST on July 12th 2012.
Speaking of the refurb of Bush House, Paul Cossell, managing director of ISG Fit Out, said: "The Aldwych Quarter scheme represents an excellent win for the business and reinforces our high quality delivery credentials as London’s leading commercial office fit out specialist.

There is yet to be a date earmarked for completion of the Aldwych Quarter but developers have stated that three of the buildings are targeting a BREEAM Excellent performance rating once they are finished.
