ISG to build Liverpool King's Dock hotel

ISG to build Liverpool King's Dock hotel
ISG is set to build a hotel at the King's Dock area of Liverpool.

The 200-room facility will be situated next to the Liverpool Exhibition Centre which will also be built by the company. ISG secured the contract for the latter last year and plans will now include a six-story hotel which brings the overall value of the project up to over £50 million. Work on the four-star hotel and exhibition centre is due to begin in the near future with officials earmarking 2015 as an opening date.

David Lawther, ISG Chief Executive, said: “I’m delighted to announce this latest high-profile win, which further demonstrates the improving conditions within the regional construction market.”

Liverpool's King's Dock area has been undergoing significant redevelopment over recent years. It was once touted as being the home to Everton FC's new stadium but plans fell through in 2003 and since then it has been subject of much talk between contractors. In 2008 it became home to the Liverpool Echo Arena which gave the city a major venue for holding concerts and sporting events while also allowing the city to compete with nearby Manchester.

The 12,000-capacity arena has formed a large part of the regeneration of the former port and the creation of both Liverpool Exhibition Centre and the four-star hotel is set to attract more visitors to Merseyside. Architect Denton Corker Marshall explained that the exhibition centre will comprise of three equally sized halls, divided by moveable walls, and will be able to host international conventions, concerts and sport events.

Denton Corker Marshall explained that it will have double the amount of exhibition space that is currently available at ACC Liverpool, rising above 15,225 sq m. The hotel will also have an intricate rectangular 'tube' design complete with extensive glazing and a double height atrium.
