Work on Slough regeneration gets underway

Work on Slough regeneration gets underway
Work on the regeneration of Slough has got underway as Morgan Sindall starts the building process of The Curve.

This development is a library, cultural and community project in the centre of the town spreading over 50,000 sq ft. The ambitious plans are part of Slough Regeneration Partnership's (SRP) vision of a new Slough creating much more amenities for local people. The local asset backed vehicle (LABV) is between both Morgan Sindall and Slough Borough Council and represents a huge revamp of the layout of the town.

Officials explained that the LABV will continue over the next five years and deliver a number of residential, leisure, education and commercial projects across Slough adding up to a value of £1 billion. The Curve is just one of the many developments that the LABV is set to fund over the coming years and will provide a real shot in the arm for Slough.

Councillor Mohammed Nazir, Slough Borough Council’s board member of the SRP said: “The signing of the contract to build The Curve is an exciting and major step forward in achieving our vision to deliver a first class facility that puts learning and culture at the heart of Slough.

“It is one of the centrepieces of the town centre regeneration, and is critical to creating a welcoming, functional and enjoyable civic space in the town centre.”

Work on The Curve is expected to be completed in the next few years with visitors due to be able to see the finished article in 2015. Until then the current library will still be in use but will be eventually replaced by the new building.

Slough is most commonly known as being the setting for Ricky Gervais' sitcom and mockumentary The Office. The town was home to Wernham Hogg Paper Company and eccentric manager David Brent, played by Gervais.
