In the pursuit of enhancing the residential experience at the prestigious Orchard Gate development, Millwood Designer Homes was resolute in addressing the challenge of noise ingress emanating from a nearby dual carriageway. The objective was clear: to implement a fencing solution that seamlessly blended effective noise reduction with perimeter protection while preserving the aesthetic charm integral to the development's ambiance.
Solution
The ambitious project encompassed a 260-metre long acoustic fence, strategically positioned atop a 1.5-metre high soil bund. This required a meticulous and staggered approach to the implementation of the acoustic fence. The unique geographical placement presented an engineering challenge, with considerations for potential exposure to high winds that could impact the effectiveness and stability of the acoustic fence.
The chosen acoustic fencing solution was the Jakoustic® Highway Reflective system, renowned for its noise reduction performance, privacy enhancing design, and natural timber aesthetic. What sets this solution apart is its specially crafted profile designed to position timber boards in a manner that eliminates gaps, preventing sound escaping. The design incorporates a distinctive timber 'tuning fork' post, complemented by solid 125mm boards featuring an interlocking 'V' and a tongue-and-groove mechanism.
To fortify the structure against high winds, galvanised steel "I" beam posts were integrated, providing the necessary stability and support. The anti-climb and scale design, coupled with a flat attack face, ensures heightened security, meeting the stringent demands of contemporary housing developments.
