Work on £93m Center Parcs begins

Work on £93m Center Parcs begins
Development of a new Center Parcs holiday resort has gotten underway this week following the award of a major contract.

Bowmer & Kirkland (B&K) clinched a deal to construct the £93 million holiday resort which will be situated in Woburn Forest, Bedfordshire, and will become the fifth site of its ilk within the UK. The company announced that the work will see the construction of leisure buildings and facilities around the site which is due to be the selling point of the holiday park to potential visitors. Officials have given a timeframe of 72 weeks for the project to be finished with spring 2014 earmarked for a completion date.

The work is due to provide a major job boost for the construction industry with officials at B&K stating that the development will require 1,200 workers prior to opening in the spring 2013. Following this, a further 1,500 positions will be created to work within the park and also to help the leisure be completed in time for the 2014 deadline. The Woburn Forest Center Parcs is designed to give people an alternative option to holidaying abroad and take a break within the UK.

Officials at B&K outlined plans for the development of the park stating that there are developments afoot for a Subtropical Swimming Pool, a 75-bedroom hotel, a spa, restaurants, sports halls, a supermarket and conference space.

Don Camilleri, Center Parcs' Woburn construction director, said: "Center Parcs Woburn Forest will feature a number of important firsts for us. We hope these firsts will enhance the guest experience and make sure that we are continuing to have a positive impact on the local environment. We're delighted to have Bowmer & Kirkland on board and look forward to working with them."

Center Parcs is an institution within the holidaying world providing people with getaways in forestry settings whether it is in mainland Europe or in the UK. The company has a host of resorts across Holland, Belgium, Germany and France while on home soil it parks in Suffolk, Nottinghamshire, Wiltshire and Cumbria.
