Leading school fencing specialist and UK manufacturer, Jacksons Fencing knows that educational budgets are often constrained. To support a school in creating a safe learning environment, Jacksons ran a national competition where one deserving establishment could win £3,000 worth of Jacksons’ products to renovate their perimeter. Brownlow Primary School in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire won with an inspired poem entry:
We’ve been rated “Good” by Ofsted, of which we’re very proud. But when you visit us, our railings cry out loud.
After 90 years of service, they’ve seen much better days. We’d love to replace them all, but we can’t afford to pay.
It’s more than a lick of paint they need, And even if we all worked at top speed, With nearly 200 metres to complete, The thought leaves us feeling beat.
We’re now aiming for “Outstanding” and what better place to start, Than the perimeter of the school, past which hundreds walk and park?
Our entry now comes to you, and is written from the heart, Please choose us for this fantastic prize, and help us make a start!
Like all head teachers, Mr. Turrell wants his pupils and staff to be safe and secure, which is why he chose Barbican® Fencing. The vertical bar steel panels are Secured by Design approved and feature a pale-through-rail construction for added security, as well as delivering a seamless, stylish and architecturally appropriate perimeter for the school building, which dates from the Edwardian era.
Jacksons supplied and installed 36m of 1.25m high Barbican® fencing to provide security. The installation was carried out by a qualified installer, ensuring integrity, safety and quality.
With school budgets under pressure; product lifetime costs are a key concern and maintenance charges need to be kept to a minimum and avoided where possible. As with all Jacksons products, Barbican® offers a low maintenance solution with its 25-year service life guarantee, a testament to its inimitable durability and quality. Investing in superior fencing is always cost-efficient due to minimal cost of replacement and upkeep.
Cris Francis, Head of Commercial Sales at Jacksons commented, “We were so impressed with the pupils’ poetic entry into the competition, we felt compelled to reward such creativity. Security in schools should not be taken lightly, so we were only too happy to supply high-quality fencing to the winning school, replacing the old rusty fencing with a far more attractive and functional alternative. We at Jacksons Fencing hope they’re happy with their new Barbican® fencing and gate which will serve them well for many years to come.”
Damien Turrell, Head Teacher of Brownlow Primary School said, “We are really pleased with the new railings. They look fantastic and give a great first impression to everyone visiting the school.”
Jacksons has a school safety and security best practice guide for fencing and gates, which provides vital advice on making sure your gates and fencing are secured. It covers a variety of potential risks and how to mitigate them, including preventing the school perimeter from being vulnerable to intruders, keeping those inside safe. The guide also advises on the best ways of stopping security products from being a hazard, how to meet anti-trap specifications to stop injuries, and the importance of stopping gates falling or swinging too wildly which can cause serious harm.
