BAM Construct has been named as the preferred candidate to take on the development job of Bradford College.

The company beat a host competitors including Morgan Siddall to land the £50 million contract which will see the construction of a new multi-million pound campus within the Yorkshire city. The new 23,000 sq m structure will be situated on the college's existing Westbrook Building site and on the former Randall Well Building, and is expected to be completed and ready for use in time for the academic year in September 2014.

BAM will continue with the second phase of Bradford College's Accommodation Strategy which is set to begin later in the month, and as part of the contract agreement the company will be committed to providing as many jobs to local contractors and construction worker as possible. The development is predicted to provide a boost to the region's employment market and give Yorkshire's local economy a shot in the arm.

Bradford College's Accommodation Strategy was set up in 2008 with the development of Trinity Green Campus which currently houses engineering, construction and sports learning facilities with the latter now featuring in the London Organising Committee Pre-Games Training Camp Guide for the Olympics in 2012. The college is also looking to replace a host of old buildings that have been ever-presents at the education institute since it opened and now show signs of their age.

Officials have stated that they plan on demolishing the Westbrook Building while the McMillan, Appleton and Old Buildings will be either sold to external developers for their own plans or be put to different use that will help the college going forward into the coming years.

Jason Pink, BAM’s project manager, said: "With BAM’s strong track record of building in Bradford, especially in the education sector, it’s obviously a tremendous pleasure for us to be associated with such a major regenerative project.

"There is a huge amount of activity planned not only with the construction of the new campus, but with the community around it, and we’re aiming to bring our brand of considerate building to bear and make a fast start for the college."
