New Centre for the Arts given the go-ahead at University of Bath

New Centre for the Arts given the go-ahead at University of Bath
The University of Bath is set to be home to a brand new Centre for the Arts, which is expected to provide a significant boost for the wider community.

Bath and North East Somerset Council gave the green light to the project which will see the creation of a dance studio, theatre, performance space and orchestra-sized rehearsal studios. It is not just the university that will benefit from the new facility as officials explained that it will be home to Bath's only dedicated contemporary art exhibition space. Students and the public alike will have access to the numerous events that are due to take place over the coming years.

Developers revealed images of the structure, an aluminium-clad four storey building and house a purpose-built education suite. The School of Management at the university will be responsible for hosting executive training and development which provides what the institute describes as "a unique combination of cultural creativity and business innovation".

Construction company Leadbitter has secured the role of building contractor for the development and will begin work later this month. It is part of a major £100 million upgrade of the entire campus which university leaders have stated is aimed at maintaining "outstanding student experience" as well as attracting some of the best researchers from all over the world.

John Struthers, director of the Institute of Contemporary Interdisciplinary Arts (ICIA) said: "With this investment we plan to establish the centre as a nationally recognised hub for contemporary arts and I look forward to welcoming people from across the region when we open the doors next autumn."

The new facility is set to be open towards the end of 2014 and the news is sure to have a positive effect on the university as it looks to entice more students to the institute.

According to the Complete University Guide, the University of Bath is ranked the facility ninth in the entirety of the UK with degree completion and graduate prospects being highly praised within the sector.
