A set of damaged traffic barriers at a level crossing in Cambridgeshire is causing concern for local residents.

The gates in Foxton at the "notorious" crossing have still not been fixed even though Network Rail, owners of the site, claimed that the work was underway over a month ago.

Figures from the railway organisation in 2009 revealed that there had been 3,244 recorded incidents of misuse and error in the year, which had lead to 13 deaths.

The government launched a television campaign to warn people of the dangers involved when approaching a level crossing and residents in the Cambridgeshire area want Network Rail to put an end to their worries.

Susan van de Ven, chairman of the Meldreth, Shepreth and Foxton Rail User Group, had called upon the organisation to resolve the problem but nothing has yet to be done.

A Network Rail spokeswoman said: "The upgrade will be completed by mid-May and we are working hard to complete this sooner if possible."
