Metal gates will need replacing in Mill Hill, Tunstall, after thieves stole three of them from a housing estate.

Police officers are hunting the people responsible for the disappearance of two single green gates and a single black gate from the area one night this week, thisisstaffordsshire.co.uk reports.

Residents have expressed their shock at the incidents, while councillor Gwen Hassall said that it is "disappointing" that the elderly have been targeted.

Pam Colclough, one of the victims, told the news provider that she is waiting for a replacement from the local council.

"I thought I heard something shortly before midnight, but just thought it was the neighbours," she added.

"When I looked out of my window this morning I noticed straight away that the gate was missing.
