The security fencing was finally brought down by councillors in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, signalling the official opening of a new play area.

Children were able to take advantage of the play equipment which was unveiled on Thursday (February 16th) by councillor Peter Murphy, Fenland District Council, and members of Friends of Wisbech Park and Wisbech in Bloom.

The new play area offers a host of activities for youngsters, such as a giant football goal, a Supernova roundabout as well as two spring rockers, amongst other facilities.

It has all been made possible after the Fenland authority reached a deal with playground company Kompan to supply kit for a number of similar projects.

Councillor Murphy told the Fenland Citizen: "It was wonderful today [February 16th] to see the number of children and families who are already using all the new equipment here."

Wisbech Town Park is the focal point of the area and holds regular events including the annual Dawn Chorus Day.
