A family from Staffordshire is calling for security fencing to be installed in an alleyway near to their home after thieves stole lead from their roof.
This Is Staffordshire reported that Tracey and Paul Cotton from Stoke believe that the theft could put their disabled child's health at risk.
Criminals stole a 20 to 30 foot stretch of lead from the roof and now the Cotton family believe that damp could seep in during the winter season.
Mr and Mrs Cotton, whose daughter Georgina suffers from a type of epilepsy known as Lennox–Gastaut syndrome, now want better security measures installed near to their home to stop this sort of crime happening again.
Mrs Cotton told the source: "It's made me really annoyed that somebody could stoop so low to steal lead off a roof, and the fact that Georgia is so poorly makes me much more sensitive. Georgia has breathing difficulties and she is on a ventilator overnight. If the water gets through the walls from all this bad weather it could affect her health."
Metal theft is a large problem all over the country with the Scottish government launching a £5 million taskforce to tackle the "epidemic".
