Metal gates may start to feature more heavily in homes throughout Humberston, following a series of thefts in the area.
Humberside Police has revealed that the actions of residents are important to preventing thefts, so it urged homeowners to think carefully about how secure their properties are.
The force has advised homeowners to make sure there are no easy access points to their properties that will enable thieves to break in and take whatever they want.
It is often tempting to leave doors unlocked when inside the property, but this will not deter thieves from entering.
Police also recommended keeping valuable items out of sight, which may include handbags and shopping.
The Norfolk Constabulary recently highlighted the need for people to protect their heating fuel with security fencing as thieves are increasingly tempted to steal the items.
This has been triggered by the rising cost of fuel, but any security measures need to ensure the tank is still accessible to truck drivers.
