Local school to erect security fencing

Local school to erect security fencing
A school in Tyne and Wear plans to erect steel gates around its perimeter after a recent child safety scare.

Education chiefs at St Mary's RC Primary School in Jarrow decided on the security fencing after three men were spotted hiding in a nearby bush, reports the Shields Gazette.

The plans to build the state-of-the-art perimeter fence to safeguard the children have been backed by parents and local town councillors, and a fundraising scheme has been launched to meet the costs of the project.

Councillor Fay Cunningham, who represents the Bede ward, told the Gazette: "I think the perimeter fence is the most appropriate option. Parents at the school have done fundraising and the school is willing to assist with this scheme."

Councillor Ton Hanson added that pressure should also be applied on the Highways Agency to get the hedges cut back along the A19 to further improve local safety.

Metal railings were recently installed in a new park in Kidderminster in order to allow children to play outdoors safely.
