Metal railings along Morecambe Promenade are currently undergoing improvements to bring them in line with European Union safety standards.

Previously, two metal railings had been in place, but now a third is being installed to make them more effective at protecting members of the public.

A spokesperson for Lancaster City Council told the Visitor: "Upon completion of this latest phase from Scalestones Point to Teal Bay, the final section of the old two rail will have been replaced."

They revealed that works to update the railings have been in the pipeline for some time, but funding has recently been made available to make it possible.

Money has been received through the sea and river defences and promenade maintenance budget, as well as capital grants.

Fenland District Council recently awarded Brian and Linda Storey £750 to revamp the metal railings outside their shop on the corner of City Road and High Street in March, reports the Fenland Citizen.
