The English cricket season is close to getting underway, with clubs now in the last stages of preparation.

Wickets are being cut and rolled into shape up and down the country and sports fencing is in place in order to protect spectators.

The start of the season is signalled by the traditional curtain-raiser which sees the MCC take on the county champions, with Lancashire claiming the crown in 2011.

The fixture has been hosted in the United Arab Emirates for the past couple of years, away from its usual Lord's home as the beginning of the campaign has been moved closer to the start of April.

Harrogate Cricket Club in North Yorkshire is hosting its own Ground Force Day on Saturday March 31st in order to get its St George's Road ground ready for the summer ahead.

It follows on from the success of last year's inaugural event which saw fencing around the boundary being painted, while the famous Leyland Gates at the entrance to the ground were taken down to be given a lick of paint.
