A property development firm has been fined because it did not install security fencing around its site in Blackburn and clear dumped waste.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Polis Real Estate was prosecuted a year ago and ordered to remove the waste and fence off its £1.6 million site in the Great Harwood area of the town, but failed to do so.

At court it was agreed this was causing a nuisance to neighbours.

The company was fined £17,500 and ordered to pay Hyndburn Borough Council’s costs of £850.

"We will always work to resolve matters with companies, but where they refuse to clean up their act we will take them to court," councillor Peter Clarke was quoted by the newspaper as saying.

In October, a manufacturing firm was fined £16,000 after it put its workers' health at risk with excessive noise levels. Acoustic fencing may have helped Equestrian Surfaces avoid the fine.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800293641-ADNFCR
