Pupils lobby for security fencing

Pupils lobby for security fencing
Pupils at a school in Wales have successfully lobbied their council for the introduction of security fencing to be installed around a 20ft drop on their route to school.

The children, from Cwmbach Junior school, were working on a school project to highlight local hazards when they spotted the potentially dangerous drop, Wales Online reports.

They then wrote to Rhondda Cynon Taf Council under the guidance of their headmaster asking if any security measures could be put in place at the spot.

Security fencing has now been put up, to the delight of the children. "We are very grateful and we appreciate what you have done. Walking to school is definitely safer for all of us now," pupil Jessica Evans said in a thank-you letter to the council, the news provider reported.

A council spokesman said: "After showing road safety officers the areas that concerned them during their walk to school, a report was sent back to staff in the Streetcare department, who agreed with the pupils and installed a new pedestrian guardrail along the length of the road."

The school was built in 1999 and teaches children in the seven to 11 age range.
