Metal railings surrounding a popular park in South Wales underwent a makeover as members of a parish council set out on a cleaning spree.

The South Wales Evening Post reported that the LifePoint Church conducted a major clean-up operation to spruce up 2,000 railings in the Uplands area making for a more idyllic surrounding.

Around 50 members of the congregation took brushes to the fences surrounding St James' Park. The clean-up event attracted local people from all over the area to muck in and improve the park.

Pastor Mike Sutton-Smith told the newspaper: "The park is a beautiful jewel on the hillside, but all the local residents are concerned about the state of the old rusting railings around it."

LifePoint, based in Swansea, holds masses every Sunday and conducts a number of youth programmes for teenagers across the region, which meets on a weekly basis for sermons.
