Network Rail has announced that it is to install automated safety barriers on a level crossing in Shiplake, Oxfordshire.
It comes following requests from the area's parish council to improve the station and set up more secure safety systems.
Shiplake, which is a stop on the First Great Western Henley-on-Thames branch line, has seen 17 crossing-related accidents in the past two years and it is hoped that this will put an end to the problems the town has faced in the past.
As part of a countrywide initiative by Network Rail, the organisation will deploy a red light enforcement vehicle to prevent motorists from deliberately jumping the crossing when advised to stop.
A spokesman for Network Rail told the Henley Standard: "Reviewing safety at level crossings is an ongoing process and this crossing has already been earmarked for an upgrade. We are planning to replace signs at Shiplake level crossing to make them more prominent and to cut back vegetation."
