Metal railings at a Midlothian church are set for a makeover after attracting a large amount of funding.
The Advertiser reported that Glencorse Parish Church managed to gain £10,500 in donations from an environmental fund headed by councillor Russell Irmie, with the rest coming in the form of landfill taxes rebates from WREN.
Glencorse is an A-grade listed building and was designed by architect Sir Robert Rowand Anderson in 1883. Construction on the church was completed in 1887 and has been enjoyed by residents of the area for the past 125 years.
The church's railing have been said to be in a state of much-needed repair and work is scheduled to begin in the near future.
Bob Macgregor, Glencorse's fabric convenor, told the newspaper: "The church is 125 years old and we don’t know when the railings were put in, but they are suffering from the ravages of time. Bits are falling away, and they don’t all match."
