Security fence to go up around Somerset junior school

Security fence to go up around Somerset junior school
The two-metre security fence is set to be built around St Martin's Junior School in Spring Hill, north Somerset.

Members of the local council felt the school fence was necessary to monitor visitors and keep the pupils safe, reports the Weston, Worle and Somerset Mercury.

Originally, a 1.5 metre high fence, which stretched 40 metres one way and 80 metres the other was proposed, however, district planning watchdogs felt this would impose too much of a negative visual impact.

Earlier this month, it was reported that a higher security fence had been erected at Eden Park Primary School in South Devon after two seven-year-old girls wandered out of the school during lessons and were missing for 90 minutes before being found, reports the South Devon express.

It is believed that the girls got out of school grounds due to a faulty gate, and the school has now taken action to tighten up security.
