Officials in Crewe could consider installing new steel fencing in a children's play area after vandals targeted the site three times in one month.

The Wistaston park, known as Joey the Swan, was subject to a "most sickening" attack where a dog waste bin was emptied onto some of the play equipment.

Furthermore, earlier in the month broken beer bottles were found in the play area, leading to police to ask for help in catching the culprits, reports the Crewe Chronicle.

PC Dan Sambrook told the news provider that though everything has now been cleared, they would like to catch who did it.

"All the play apparatus has now been wiped and washed down, disinfected and then wiped over with antibacterial wipes," he said.

"Also the surrounding area has been washed and disinfected. To target a children's play ground is unacceptable and we would urge anyone who may have information to come forward."

Meanwhile, Norton is to see play area fencing installed at The Blue Hill recreation ground following a £70,000 grant.
