Doncaster could be home to a new flagship housing development after plans were submitted to the town's council.

Keepmoat is looking to significantly boost property potential within the Yorkshire area and the £22.6 million scheme could seriously reinvigorate Doncaster as a whole. Should the plans be given the go-ahead the first phase of the development will see the creation of 334 new homes and could start as early as March 2013. Keepmoat was selected by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to undertake the initial stage of the project due to its specialism in housing and regeneration.

Officials stated that the first part of the development will see the construction of 172 homes at Carr Lodge in Doncaster and then a further 132 larger properties and 30 self-build housing plots will also be created in collaboration with Strata Homes. It is part of a much wider scheme which will see the development of around 1,500 homes as well as a new main street and village square which will include shops and other local amenities to suit the needs of those living within the dwelling and attract people from around the region to live there.

Mark Knight, new build managing director for Keepmoat Yorkshire, said: "We are delighted to have been appointed as the preferred developer for the first phase of homes at Carr Lodge and we look forward to working in partnership with the HCA, Strata and a social housing provider to deliver affordable new homes."

Keepmoat stated that the development is expected to take three years to deliver and once completed will give Doncaster an ideal settlement for residents already living in the area or for those that are coming to work in the Yorkshire town. The company is already a large part of the community and currently sponsors Doncaster Rovers' football ground.

The Keepmoat Stadium sits just on the outskirts of the town and was first opened in August 2007 with an inaugural games played between Doncaster and a Manchester United XI.
