The north London area of Tottenham is set to benefit from significant rejuvenation after Galliford Try announced it had secured a residential project contract.
As part of the £38 million contract new homes will be built on the site of a former rubber factory creating 222 properties as one, two and three-bed apartments. Commercial space and a new two-form entry primary school is also set to be created which will be able to house 420 pupils once completed. Newlon Housing Trust chose Galliford's partnerships division for the project which will be situated at the Brook House site.
Construction is due to begin later in June and officials have earmarked a completion date of mid-2015. It marks yet another step forward in the regeneration of Tottenham which was affected during the summer 2011 riots with a number of shops and local businesses ruined by looters.
Speaking about the regeneration plans Greg Fitzgerald, Galliford Try chief executive, said: “Our record in regeneration projects means we are recognised as a contractor of choice, and we are delighted that Newlon have chosen us to go ahead with this significant project.
“We look forward to working with Newlon to build these community facilities that will bring considerable benefit to the area."
Tottenham Hotspur recently announced that as part of the football club's stadium expansion plans they would be looking to provide a major boost to the area as well. The Premier League side is looking to significantly upgrade White Hart Lane as it will be creating a Sainsbury's supermarket near to the ground which will attract a large number of shoppers on matchdays and non-matchdays.
The new retail outlet will be one of the biggest of its kind in London spanning over 130,000 sq ft and will be able to create 250 new jobs for local residents, while also securing positions at the existing Tottenham Sainsbury's. Work has been underway since September 2012 with an expected opening date of late 2013 and early 2014 for completion.
