Derbyshire is in line to receive more care homes after a contractor was selected to take on a construction project across three different sites in the county.

Willmott Dixon has announced that it was close to reaching an agreement with Chevin Housing Association to build just fewer than 200 extra apartments as part of a contract worth £23 million. The construction company had been chosen to undertake the job and is now in the process of ironing out the details of the arrangement to improve services across the region. The Together Housing Group, Derbyshire County Council's chosen partner to build and manage the proposed sites in Chesterfield, Alfreton and Clay Cross, will work alongside Willmott during the process.

The developments consist of a range of different sized care homes with the Clay Cross site being the largest of all the plans. This will see 90 apartments with communal facilities and day care centre constructed on the former location of the town's school. The other two projects will see a 55-two-bedroom-apartment development, complete with parking and gardens, being built in Chesterfield while Alfreton will be home to a 52-apartment care project situated on the Cressy Fields site within the town.

Willmott has stated that the construction of these facilities will be in conjunction with both Lathams Architects and PKF Financial. Officials have noted that planning permission has already been granted to the Chesterfield project while the Alfreton and Clay Cross developments are due to be resolved in the coming days. Officials are hopeful that once completed these care homes will provide a major boost for the region.

Peter Owen managing director of Willmott Dixon's Midlands-based office, said: "These schemes will really make a difference to the provision of state-of-the-art and affordable housing in Derbyshire, providing highly specialised, quality living space with 24/7 on site care where needed for older people across the county.

"It will also help support local communities by keeping people together and bringing new jobs and amenities to these areas."
