A play area in Ash Grove has received a £25,000 boost in its bid to get the £60,000 needed for a total renovation.

Ringwood Town Council launched a bid in 2010 to secure the funds needed to help makeover the dilapidated play area. The grant has been handed down by the New Forest District Council.

As part of the plans pupils from Ringwood Junior School have been invited to submit design ideas and also tell planners what they would like to see in their town's new playground.

It is one of a number of areas across the country receiving money for regeneration work with the Haverhill Echo reporting that a facility in Wickhambrook would be receiving £90,000 for a new regeneration scheme.

Councillor Di Brook told the Salisbury Journal: "This scheme will fill a recognised gap in provision for children and young people, as well as provide informal recreation opportunities for the community. The scheme responds positively to national best practices guidance for play provision."
