The M5 near Taunton and Bridgwater is to be the subject of traffic barriers with drivers expected to face long delays.

Concrete barriers will be installed on the stretch of motorway on Monday (December 12th) with the road blocks to be taken away on December 23rd when work is expected to be completed.

It will see both dual carriageways reduced to two lanes overnight on the section of road between junction 25 and 24. A spokesman for the Highways Agency has said that speed cameras might be installed to enforce a 50mph speed limit.

Daniel Gray, spokesman for the Highways Agency said: "The work is part of a national programme and was scheduled before last month's incident. These works will help improve travelling safety and mitigate the risk of 'crossover crashes'. The Highways Agency will make every effort to ensure that any disruption to road users is minimised throughout the scheme."

In November the M5 was the scene of a large crash which claimed the lives of seven people and injuring 51 others.
