Once the security fencing was taken down, children in Buckingham proudly watched the opening of a new play area.

The opening signalled the completion of a £70,000 project which has regenerated the site to its former glory. A report by the Bicester Review said that a grant by 'Section 106' contributions from new housing developments helped pay for the new area.

Designed for children between the ages of two and 14, the site includes a high slide, nest swing, roundabouts and zip wire.

Schools in Buckingham were consulted prior to construction and children from Bourton Meadow Junior School attended the opening by chairman of Aylesbury Vale District Council (AVDC) Derrick Isham on Monday.

David Thompson, AVDC’s cabinet member for leisure, said "This new play area at Otters Brook is a fantastic facility for local children, and I hope they will have many happy years enjoying it. My thanks go out to all those involved in its development."

A number of play areas are being planned across the country, with a site in Wickhambrook set for a £90,000 makeover.
