Drivers that have faced traffic barriers and roadworks for the past month in Swindon town centre have been told the congestion will be over by Christmas.

The renovation at Whalebridge is set to be coming to an end as Forward Swindon has said that the project is on time and due to be finished on December 23rd.

Contractors will leave the highway by December 15th with the £4 million project to be finished two days before Christmas.

Doug Finlay, of developer Muse, explained how the roadworks have not affected the town centre as badly as people have made out, he said: "For me, as a driver that uses it from time to time, at peak times of the day it functions perfectly well. In fact, my fastest exits from Swindon in the evenings have been since they opened up the new traffic arrangements."

The project has aimed to regenerate the Union Square in Swindon creating a pedestrian-friendly signal junction.
