Improved security fencing at the Tottenham Community Festival and Carnival will cost the carnival charity an extra £5,000 if they decide to go ahead with it.

The extra security fencing would be four inches higher than the current fencing, which may prevent a similar repeat of last year's storming by 40 youths, reported London 24.

Despite being granted a license, the future of the festival is still uncertain until the event organisers provide a detailed plan of security fencing and where security stewards will be stationed.

Sergeant Simon Willmott, who oversees football and events, is concerned that the popular festival, which has been going for 14 years now and is visited by thousands of revellers, is not adequately prepared.

Nicky Price, carnival committee chairman, told the news provider: “I’m feeling anger and frustration. I am trying my best to do the best we can. The council, who have cut back everywhere, should be supporting the Big Society approach and doing what they can. We may have to cancel everything."

The importance of security fencing at events was recently demonstrated at the Radio 1 Big Weekend music festival in Carlisle, where organisers added an extra 10,000 metres of fencing.
