Schoolchildren throughout the country are being given the chance to compete inside Olympic venues next year, many of which are kitted out with sports fencing.

The 2012 School Games will take place before the Games begin, with around 1,600 people expected to participate at the Olympic Stadium, Aquatics Centre, Velodrome and ExCeL Centre.

Children in school years three to 13 are invited to sign up to the event, where the finals are scheduled to be held on May 6th-9th next year.

Secretary of state for culture, Olympics, media and sport Jeremy Hunt said: "The competition will use the inspiration of 2012 to transform competitive sport in schools and get more young people playing sport, long after next summer."

He revealed that the tournament would be the largest of its kind ever to be held in the UK and gives children the chance to follow in the footsteps of their sporting heroes.
