Lack of play area fencing causes anger in Newbury

Lack of play area fencing causes anger in Newbury
Campaigners in Newbury have had their request for play area fencing to be reinstalled at a local park turned down.

Victoria Park recently underwent refurbishments, during which the security fencing was taken down and it was not put back up following completion.

A petition signed by 1,267 people was presented to Newbury Town Council asking for the fences to be reinstalled, reports Newbury Today, but bosses have deemed the project too expensive.

They have estimated that erecting the play area fencing will cost an additional £26,000 on top of the money that has already been spent on the refurbishments.

Local parent Tina Gower commented: "We understand that in the future the council wants to get more funding to expand the play area which is great but our main concern is the boating pond."

It was recently reported by the Hucknall Dispatch that a new play area had been opened on Albert Street, which included features such as a roundabout and cradle swings.
