Lake and play area set for renovation in Basildon

Lake and play area set for renovation in Basildon
Basildon's Gloucester Park is to get a new lake and improved play area as part of a £1.4 million scheme to revitalise the site.

Echo News reported that the security fencing is due to go up early next year as Basildon council aims to give the park a makeover. Plans also include improving the lighting around the area.

Barratt Wilson Bowden is investing the money in exchange for the housing company being granted permission to build 144 new properties in place of the old swimming pool and surrounding area near the park.

Once completed, the park will be re-named Acacia Park in a move that will give the area a new identity.

Phil Turner, Basildon councillor responsible for resources, told the source: "This is a good deal for the Basildon community, with over £1 million being invested straight back into the park. Acacia Park will not only deliver much needed new family housing, it will make the park more accessible from the town centre and more attractive."

A newly-built play area in Lancaster is set to create 20 jobs to the region after the £100,000 project was completed.
