Local business wants security bollards to protect shop
A local businessman believes that security bollards might need to be erected on Eastbank Street in Southport after a car crashed into his shop – the second such incident in a matter of weeks.

A suspected drunk-driver is believed to have lost control of his vehicle and ploughed into the kitchen showroom "head on", reported the Southport Visitor.

Simon Miller believes the damage to the store will cost approximately £25,000 to repair. It was only at Easter time when a similar accident took place at his showroom.

Mr Miller, 43, said that if someone had been walking along late at night, there was a good chance that person would have been killed.

Speaking to the newspaper, he said: "There has been a spate of these types of crashes on Eastbank Street in recent months. The Tesco store has been hit by a vehicle and one of the salons. I think we may need some security bollards to protect local traders."

Police confirmed that a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and has since been bailed.

Security bollards have recently been put up outside a police station in Derry/Londonderry to protect the site from potential republican attacks.
