Former premier league footballer Dean Windass was on hand to unveil new play area fencing near Thirsk last weekend.

The former Bradford striker, who now works as an analyst on Sky Sports, visited the play area in Rainton that will provide local children with exciting new equipment.

As well as a 20-metre zip wire and BMX track, there will be an area for younger children to enjoy, reports The Northern Echo.

Christine Egerton, committee chairwoman of the North Yorkshire County Council, told the news provider that the site is the result of plenty of hard work from the council and the children themselves.

"After months of planning, it's so exciting to see the children's designs come to life," she said.

"It's going to be very satisfying seeing the older children really enjoying the space they've helped to create and making the most of the generous funding we've had."

Windass played 142 times in a second spell at Bradford, scoring 89 times.
