Portsmouth to see sports netting after plans for leisure centre revealed

Portsmouth to see sports netting after plans for leisure centre revealed
Sports netting looks likely to be required in Portsmouth after the local council said that it will spend £1.4 million on a new leisure centre.

The Hillside Youth and Community Centre will be knocked down and replaced with a new state-of-the art facility in the next two years to help provide people with new leisure equipment access.

Furthermore, the two-storey building will also include an art room, sports hall and other facilities, reports The News.

Cosham Conservative councillor Lee Mason told the news provider that he is disappointed that £1 million of the funding has come from insurance money paid out on a building that burnt in his area.

"It was at the heart of the community, but the council's taken the money from it burning down and taken the centre away," he explained.

"The Cosham and Paulsgrove communities are completely different. It's a lost facility for Cosham."

Bicester will also see the introduction of new sports facilities in the coming months after plans for six football and rugby pitches were given the go ahead.
