Security bollards and crash barriers will need replacing on a Cambridgeshire road after a driver crushed them while reversing.

The incident, which also saw the driver of a Mazda crash into a number of bikes, took place last week (June 23rd) outside the Budgens supermarket in Perne Road, Coleridge.

A police spokeswoman told the Cambridge News that the council has been informed of the damage done, suggesting that more security bollards will be put in place soon.

James Hutchinson, who was visiting the city and saw the incident, told the news provider that the event was out of the ordinary.

"The bikes are probably worth a few hundred pounds. A friend saw what happened and it was pretty bizarre," he said.

"A car reversed out of a space and drove right over the bollards and smashed into the bikes."

Elsewhere, security bollards are being considered for a road in Sutton to stop it being used as a shortcut by drivers.
