Security fencing installed after farm incident

Security fencing installed after farm incident
One Lincolnshire farming company has installed security fencing after being fined by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

CW Dobbs and Son was found to have not put sufficient security measures in place, leading to one worker fracturing his leg on October 21st last year.

Agency worker Algis Jevsejevas, aged 45, was walking along the floor of a potato grading shed when he was struck by a reversing vehicle.

The company was found by an HSE investigation not to have ensured the shed was arranged in such a way that vehicles and pedestrians could move round safely.

HSE inspector Neil Ward commented: "The farmer has put up a barrier but has also moved the labels to another part of the shed, next to the grading line, so people don't have to walk across the shed."

The company was fined £7,000 for the incident and ordered to pay £2,588 in costs.
