The broken down tennis court fencing in Ynysddu has been repaired just in time for tennis enthusiasts to get into the spirit of Wimbledon.
The courts have been in disrepair for a few years now, but with a £1,000 funding boost from Local Sirhowy Valley Communities Partnership and Caerphilly Council, they have been restored to their former glory, reported South Wales Argus.
It is welcome news to Ian Gilchrist, the park ranger at Ynysddu Welfare, as he was a member of the Ynysddu Tennis Club which regularly used the courts before they fell into disrepair.
Speaking to the newspaper, he said that he hoped a new men's tennis club would be set up next year.
He added: "Hopefully the Wimbledon fortnight will be a kick-start for the courts."
The restoration of the tennis courts came after residents tirelessly campaigned for them to be repaired.
Three-metre high mesh sports fencing will go up at the edge of a site for a proposed state-of-the-art training centre in Huddersfield, if planners give it the go ahead.
