Trapped deer rescued from security fencing

Trapped deer rescued from security fencing
A deer has been rescued in Arlington East Sussex after getting trapped in security fencing.

Rescuers from East Sussex Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service were sent to Abbots Wood to free the 18kg deer after it got caught in a narrow gap between two fences, reports Sussex Express.

The animal had caught its back leg in a wire while trying to jump over a fence and was found hanging from the mesh.
Rescuers Trevor Weeks, Kathy Martyn and Tony and Claire Neads covered the deer's head to keep it calm before cutting away the wire that was clamped around its leg.

"It was very awkward and I had to lift the deer from the rear as it was impossible to stand in the normal position, but we managed and settled her down on the stretcher," Mr Weeks told the Sussex Express.

The deer was given emergency medicine before it was taken from the woods to one of the veterinary ambulances, which transported it to the Wildlife Rescue and Ambulance Service's Casualty Care Centre at Whitesmith, where the deer's wounds were treated.
