Wrexham site has security fencing installed as it awaits redevelopment

Wrexham site has security fencing installed as it awaits redevelopment
Security fencing has been placed around a site of former high-rise flats in north Wales as the local council prepares to announce what will happen to the land.

The Hightown area used to have 181 flats and maisonettes along with five bungalows but this will make way for a new housing development after a survey revealed that major repairs and improvements were needed.

Wrexham council was given planning permission last October but is now discussing housing options with rehoused tenants, reports the BBC.

Council leader Ron Davies told the news provider that plans are in place for new housing and these will be made available in the near future.

"We hope to make an announcement very soon about the future development of this site with emphasis on affordable homes for local people which is one of the council's priority work areas," he said.

Security fencing was also set up around an allotment in Northwich last week after it received a grant from the national lottery.
