Dorking farm hit by gate theft

Dorking farm hit by gate theft
A farm in Dorking, Surrey, has become the latest site to a victim of scrap metal crime after thieves made off with a set off steel 'kissing gates'.

The access points were taken from the entrance of Milton Court Farm on Thursday (April 26th) and the owners of the site claim that they will cost "hundreds of pounds" to replace.

It is believed that the theft was just one of a spate of scrap metal-related crimes which have been plaguing the country of late. It has prompted police and councils across the north of England to impose more stringent regulation around scrap merchants.

It means that anyone wanting to cash in on the metal will have to sign up to a register and show identification before any money changes hands.

Farmer Hugh Broom told the Leatherhead Advertiser: "They have just unbolted the top of the gate and taken it. You would think if they wanted it for scrap metal they would take the whole thing, but they've just taken the gate in the middle."
