Kier has been selected to take on a renovation project at Peterborough United's Moy's End terrace.
The company has beaten off competition from the likes of Barr and Buckingham Group to secure the contract, which will ready the club should they gain promotion back to the Championship. Current regulation in the top two divisions in England requires clubs to have all seater stadiums, however there are exceptions to the rule. In the case of Yeovil Town, who were promoted last season and have two terraced stands, clubs are allowed three seasons in the Championship before needing to convert.
Peterborough's relegation to League One in the 2012/13 campaign meant that they could shelve immediate plans for renovation but board members are now keen to press on. The Moy's End stand is currently used for away fans but the club plans to demolish the terracing and replace it with a new 2,500 all-seater capacity at a cost of £7.2 million.
Construction Enquirer reported that Kier will be responsible for bringing the project to fruition and will give London Road a new lease of life. Peterborough have stated that the renovated stand will be linked to a specialist education centre for adolescents aged between 14 and 19. It is part of Peterborough City Council's aim of creating a "community stadium" in the town.
There is no word yet whether the opposite London Road Terrace will also be renovated but it is something that the club will need to consider should they return to the Championship in the near future.
Peterborough have had an excellent start to the season and currently lie in second place behind Leyton Orient, who boast a 100 per cent record after eight games. Despite a great start to the league campaign, the team suffered a setback in the Capital One Cup after being knocked out in the second round by Premier League side Sunderland on Tuesday (September 24th) evening.
