Slough to undergo major renovation

Slough to undergo major renovation
Slough is set to undergo a major renovation project as the council looks to improve the look of the south-east town.

The first of these regeneration plans will see the creation of a new library as well as other leisure facilities designed to improve amenities for people living in the area. The initial stage of the development work has already gotten underway after Morgan Sindall Group was selected as the preferred candidate to take on the renovation plans and will oversee both design and construction of the major landmarks that will form the regeneration of Slough.

Officials at Morgan Sindall state that the company plans to now form a joint venture Local Asset Backed Vehicle (LABV) that will help to get the £1 billion project off and running. The business noted that it will be heavily involved with the creation of the Curve library which will take up £45 million of the fund. Morgan Sindall will both design and build the structure along with a community centre. However, these are just part of the proposals with Slough Borough Council also detailing plans for an ice rink, leisure centre and a new secondary school.

The town was famously the set of the Ricky Gervais comedy 'The Office' and despite the media spotlight being focused on the area during the run of the highly popular show officials are keen to make the town more appealing for residents and people that are visiting from nearby London.

Paul Smith, chief executive of Morgan Sindall Group plc, said: "We have a strong track record working in partnership with local authorities to deliver large-scale, complex regeneration schemes. We are delighted to have this opportunity to partner with Slough Borough Council to fulfil their vision for the regeneration of the area and deliver this important project for the local community."

Slough's regeneration also includes the creation of 525 new homes as part of a £105 million development that will be undertaken by Lovell Partnerships in the near future.
