A group of youngsters have started a campaign for the installation of crash barriers to protect a walking path on a stretch of a busy east Yorkshire road.
According to the Hull Daily Mail, a group of boys from Brough Primary School, in Melton, are petitioning the Highways Agency for traffic barriers to be erected on part of the A63 road.
The path is well-used by both pedestrians and school children alike and there are real safety concerns due to both the busyness of the road and vehicle travelling speeds of 70 miles per hour.
The boys, who are calling themselves the Blood Brothers, are hoping their online petition will be successful.
Pupil Ellis Howard told the news provider the path was potentially very dangerous.
"We will be using this path to get to school next year and we think it is an accident waiting to happen.
"We think that barriers should be put in place to stop accidents and protect children."
Humberside Police are supporting the Brothers, along with councillor Julie Abraham. She told the news provider a traffic barrier was paramount.
"Something definitely has to be done before someone is killed, it is essential.
"Barriers would safeguard children, our most precious asset."
Just this month residents called for the installation of traffic barriers on a road in Wigan.
