Bournemouth town centre is set to get a major overhaul, which will include the revamping of metal railings.

Teams of workers will take to the streets this summer to repair furniture, metal railings, litter bins and brickwork as they spruce up the town ahead of the expected influx of tourists.

Bournemouth Borough Council will be spending £2.5 million on the revamp, which will include some road works.

The makeover is expected to be completed in the coming weeks.

Speaking to the BBC, councillor Robert Lawton, member for environment and transport, said: "We're on a mission to really bring our roads and pavements up to the standard expected by residents and visitors.

"With the summer season fast approaching we want to be able to showcase our beautiful seaside town."

Recently, Little Leigh Parish Council announced it was installing metal railings and conducting other vital improvements to a play area in the region.
