Police are looking for the driver of a car which smashed through cliff-top security fencing in Leigh.
They have appealed for witnesses to come forward if they saw the silver Mondeo at 11 BST on Sunday (July 4th) night.
Officers spotted the vehicle driving with no lights and attempted to pull the car over.
It failed to stop and was found at 11.25 crashed into a security fence on Cliff Parade. The driver was nowhere to be found.
Speaking to the Echo, Essex Police spokesperson Donna Veasey said: "At no time was the vehicle pursued. There were no occupants with the vehicle and we are appealing to anyone with information to contact officers at Rayleigh Road Policing."
Hart District Council's countryside team recently condemned vandals who cut through high security fencing near the B3011, which could have resulted in cattle getting onto the road.
