Allotment-holders in Worcester are desperate for the site's security fencing to be fixed after an attempted break-in.
According to the Worcester News, members of the Perdiswell allotments on Droitwich Road have been waiting over a week for high security fencing to be fixed, and are now becoming increasingly concerned for the safety of the site.
Holders had spotted that the security fencing at the back of the allotment had been cut open on Monday August 16th. Trespassers lifted gates of their hinges and tried to break into a storage building.
Dan Robb, who owns a plot close to the fence, expressed worry over the time take to repair it. He told the newspaper: "Somebody broke the lock at the main gate of the allotments a week ago, then they’ve cut their way through the fence to the depot.
"It's been a week and still they haven’t fixed the fence."
However, the council said that security had improved, and confirmed the security fencing would be fixed this week.
The risks posed by leaving security fencing in a state of disrepair are serious. This month a band of horses escaped onto a residential estate after cutting through a hole in broken security fencing.
