A councillor from Dudley has been celebrating following the success of his 12-month campaign to improve safety measures on a busy Saltwells road.

Bryan Cotterill had been appealing to council officers for extra metal railings to be installed along Bowling Green Road and Saltwells Road, Dudley News reported.

He said that children in his area were "just as precious and likely to get run over as children from other areas in the borough".

There are only two small pieces of railing currently in place at the junction of the two main roads.

After these were installed a year ago, Mr Cotterill said the sight of them made him "laugh out loud".

"I asked for railings as the road is regularly used by children and parents attending Netherbrook Primary School and I did get them, but I couldn't believe it when I saw them. I actually laughed out loud and asked where the rest were," he explained.

Earlier this month, residents in Dudley were relieved when their request for a bench to sit and rest next to All Saints Church was granted by Dudley Council, Stourbridge News reported.ADNFCR-3337-ID-800031991-ADNFCR
